CHARTERED INSURANCE INSTITUTE OF
NIGERIA (CIIN)
-Established by Decree 22 of 1992.
This is the professional body for all insurers in Nigeria
including those in brokerage. Insurance as a professional has a lot in common
with Banking. Both of them in fact belong to the same industry. Professional
insurers are few in Nigeria, that is why those who obtain the final certificate
of this Institute are lured by insurance companies with attractive packages,
The insurance sector will continue to thrive in Nigeria for it
enjoys peculiar advantages created for it by some laws of the land. For example,
it is a legal requirement that you insure every vehicle you own, the aircraft,
ship and what they carry (including goods and passengers) are also insured as a
matter of necessity. Corporate bodies insures their premises and property
against fire and burglary. Pension funds are also managed by
Insurers. Put succinctly, they have a
reliable source of revenue. That is why they are able to pay the professionals
who work for them well.
It is however, a profession meant for those who are meticulous,
pay attention to details for their business is risk management. You can be
registered for the Institute's examination if you posses"… credit in 4
subjects including English Language and Mathematics at not more than two
sittings". Candidates who are over 25 (or will be 25 by the date of the
examination) and are employed or engaged in insurance and who do not posses the
required qualifications may be considered for registration if they produce
acceptable evidence of their age. " Those who do not meet the above stated
requirements, are advised to first sit for the Institute's Insurance Proficiency
Certificate (IPC) examination. Only two (2) papers (the Insurance Business, and
Technical Aspects) are sat for in this exam. " There are special entry
requirements for the IPC. Those who are not working in Insurance Companies can
take the exam. " A pass in the examinations will be accepted by the CIIN as
an entry qualification into the Associateship examination".
The Institute conducts its examinations every April.

INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED
SECRETARIES & ADMINISTRATORS OF NIGERIA (ICSAN) -
Established by Decree 19 of 1991
The founding fathers of this Institute drew inspiration from
their counterparts in England. Membes of the body are involved in big time
secretaryship with specialization in Financial Administration and Management,
Pension Fund Administration and Management and local Government Administration
and Management. A chartered Secretary: he/she is on a much higher pedestal and
typically heads a department with a retinue of staff (including Lawyers, Public
Relations Officers, and Confidential Secretaries) assisting him/her in the
discharge of his/her functions.
People who have done (or desire to do) undergraduate studies in
Law, Secretarial Administration, Public Relations, and related fields find
membership of the Institute attractive. This is because it confers on them the
professional authority they require to engage in activities that will guarantee
them self actualization.
At present, only very few people are Chartered Secretaries in
Nigeria, giving professionals in this area the privilege of working on their own
term with respect to their remuneration, how they use their time and the
decision that they take. It is, however, a profession meant for a disciplined
person who does not take advantage of other people's ignorance, and respects the
confidentiality of information given to him in his privileged position.
The programme is very rich in terms of its course content having
three major stages: Foundation, Pre professional, and Professional. A Student
who starts the programme with an academic background of five (5) G.C.E O'L
papers at credit level including English Language and Mathematics (for that
minimum is the requirement for admission into the programme) is required to sit
for and pass 17 course to qualify as a Chartered Secretary. The programme
encompasses Law. Accounting, Information Management, Social Pscyhology, and
personnel Administration Courses amongst others. The examination is conducted
twice annually (in June, and December).

is in appreciation of the strategic importance of the Image-Maker that the

NIGERIAN MARKETING ASSOCIATION (NIMARK) - founded in 1976
This is a 3 - Part Programme constituting of 14 courses
and a project work which completes Part III. The course students are examined on
are;
PART I
1.Fundamental of Marketing 2. Economics
3. Principles of Management 4. Statistics
PART II
5. Business Law 8. Marketing Management
6. Selling & Sale Management 9. Financial & Mgr.
Accounting
7. Consumer Behaviour
PART III
10. Marketing Communication 13. International Marketing
11. Distribution Systems 14. Marketing Case Study
12. Marketing Research
This is an indigenous Alternative to the British Institute of Marketing’s
Diploma in
Marketing. NIMARK’S Diploma programme is preferred to
the British alternative in the light of foreign exchange difficulties and the
fact that it was designed to equip any holder of the Diploma with what it takes
to market successfully in the Nigerian Business environment. Other things being
equal, a NIMARK graduate will perform better on the job than a holder of the
British Institute of Marketing’s Diploma.
To those who posses the potentialities of a market, we highly recommend the
programme. Economic recession has pushed this profession to an enviable
position. Every organization now searches for a marketer, and those who received
professional training with a certificate to show for it have the sky as their
limit.
The profession is intrinsically fascinating. Its practitioners enjoy
tremendous incentives chief among which is the bonus attached to sale beyond a
minimum target. Almost every professional marker is allocated a car to
facilitate the effective carrying out of his function. Most organizations would,
however, prefer you drive yourself; so you need a driving license to be sure of
securing a choice appointment. The Association conducts it's examinations twice
annually (in May, and October) and requires that those whom wish to sit for is
examinations” .. have at least one of the following qualifications: the GCE O’L
or the SSC with Credit in 5 subject including English and MaAthematics, obtained
at not more than two sittings.
Persons aged 25 years and above, with at least 3 years Marketing experience
in reputable companies, and possessing either GCE or the SSC, with Credit in any
4 subject, regardless of the number of sittings.”
INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED ACCOUNTS OF NIGERIA (ICAN) -Established by Act No. 15
of 1965
Accountancy is a profession for the disciplined mind, both its training
and practice require concern for details, strong desire to excel, and
perseverance. Accounting training makes one versatile. An effective Chartered
Accountant performs well in financial management, management advisory services,
and the control of management systems. The average Accountant is prudent and
thrifty, and demands that people who deal with him should have similar concerns.
Chartered Accountants enjoy high social status given the enviable pecuniary
benefits accruable to them and the enormous privileges the law has conferred on
them.Nobody practises any aspect of accountancy in a consultancy capacity unless
he /she is authorized to do so practice by this institute via the passing of all
its prescribed examination, which are in four parts. There are three papers in
each foundation examination, four in its intermediate Examination and four in
Modules A and B of its Professional Examinations I,while Professional
ExaminationsII comprises six courses. People who intend to pass through this
route are required to meet the minimum admission qualification of a Higher
National Diploma. Those who do not meet these requirements may meet the minimum
admission requirement for the Accounting Technician Scheme which is also
administer by the Institute .
Under the scheme, applicants qualify for registration if they possess at
least five passes, at credit level in the West African School certificate, G.C.E,
or S.S III. These passes must include: English Language, and Mathematics “Their
examinations are conducted twice annually in (March, and September). This scheme
is a three-part Programme consisting of 12 courses (four in each part). Those
who pass all the subjects in this Scheme are normally exempted from the
Foundation Examination of the ICAN Examinations except LawII. of the main ICAN
Programme are taken in May, and November of each year .
The Institute makes the performance of Accounting duty” ..in a practising
office, commerce, industry including statutory corporations or in government”
a precondition for registration as a student member of the Institute. The body
further requires that a prospective student” … must be engaged in time under
the supervision of a Chartered Accountant Member of the Institute”. It deems
an accounting duty” …to be approved when such a duty superintended over by a
Chartered Account Member of the Institute or being subject to regular audit by a
professional firm of Chartered Accountants in Nigerian (emphasis ours). “The
Institute remarks , nevertheless, that “in the Civil Service, however, the
Superintendency of Chartered Accounts Members is not strictly necessary - (Civil
Service accounting systems throughout the Federal having been recognized as
providing adequate training ground for accountants in the Public Sector). But
sponsorship by a member of the Institute is still mandatory for examination
purposes. These can be obtained form any member of the Institute within the
service.” These conditions apply more to the main ICAN Programme (which start
with the “foundation” examination) than the ATS. “A Medical Practitioner,
a Legal Practitioner, Minister of Religion, a Member of the armed Forces of
Nigerian not below the rank Captain in the army of equivalent in the Airforce of
Navy, or a Superintendent of Police, or a Senior /Civil servant not below the
rank of Senior Accountant” can serve as your referee for registration under
the accounting Technicians Scheme (ATS). As we have already underscored, you
will be exempted from the foundation stage of the main programme except LawII,if
you pass the three (3) parts of the ATS Programme.
ADVERTISING PRACTITIONER COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (APCON) Established by Decree 55
of 1988.
This Council was established to among other functions determine”… who
are advertising practitioners”, and the knowledge and skill”.. to be
attained by persons seeking to become registered as members of the advertising
profession”. The professional examination in Advertising conducted by the
Council is pursuant to the effective carrying out of this function. The comments
we made on the Nigerian Institute of Marketing {NIMARK}Programme mutatis
mutandus apply to this profession. This is because, advertising is one of the
specialized areas in marketing. The programme is in five (5) parts as delineated

4. Manpower planning/Training & Development.
PART II
1. Social Research Methods

3 Industrial Relations
4. Advance Personnel Management
PART III
1. Dissertation & Field Attachment/Placement
Only a handful of people are professional
practitioners in Nigeria, and the dynamics of industry and commerce, and the
society at large, demand that every organization that wants to survive,
grow, and consistently make satisfactory profit should employ the service of
professional Human Resources Managers. Many organizations have come to this
realization. That is why pages of newspapers are filled up with personnel
vacancy announcements.
Industrial Relations and Training come
under the purview of the personnel function. This organization is able to
make learning an enjoyable experience largely because its Programme
Coordinator is a professional personnel practitioner who possesses the
knowledge, skills and the right attitudes it takes to help the adult learn.
The remuneration for personnel practitioners was relatively poor before the
advent of economic downturn. Most employers now make membership of IPM a
major criterion for appointment into personnel positions. In fact, the
Decree that established the institute so directs. We however, want to
underscore the fact that those who come into this profession primarily for
the pecuniary advantage accruable from it do not make a success of the
practice. Five SSCE Papers including credit in English Language and
Mathematics are minimum requirements for admission as a Student Member of
the Institute. The Institute's examinations are conducted in February, and
August of every year.

Exemption can be granted to
those who have University Degrees or Professional Certificates recognized by
the Institute. The minimum academic qualification for admission into the
programme is five (5) Credits including English Language and Mathematics.
This programme is recommended
for those who posses certificates in specialized areas and are aspiring to
become Managers. It will enable them to have a helicopter (broad) view of
the organisation they work for, thereby making them competent job holders.
The successful completion of this programme will guarantee them rapid rise
and job security. For starters who lack 'godfathers ' we advise that they
commence their studies so they can go beyond the rudiments, for this
programme does not inherently give them a competitive edge over people who
have studied only branch of Management.
The Institute conducts its
examination twice annually (in June and December)
NIGERIA INSTITUTE OF
PURCHASING AND SUPPLY MANAGEMENT - (NIPSM)
Founded in1974
This is the professional body

professionals in this area in Nigeria. This has meant attractive
remuneration packages for those who have become members of the Institute
through examination.
Those who do not have minimum

CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF
BANKERS OF NIGERIA (CIBN)
-Established by Decree
12 of 1990
Banking is the profession of
the moment in terms of the remuneration and social status of its
practitioners. The banking sector seems be the pillar of Nigeria's economy.
The sector services the government, organisations, and private individuals.
It is, therefore, obvious that everybody's life is in one way or another
affected by banking operations. Advancement in this sector hinges largely on
one's professional status. Those who aspire to grow in this vibrant industry
must, thereby, sit for and scale through professional banking examinations.
This programme has major four parts
The Course are:
FOUNDATIONS
SECTION I

Communications
Accounting I General Principles of Law
SECTOR II

Possession of five (5) credit
in WASC/GCE 'O'L (or equivalent) including credits at one sitting or five
credits at two sitting in SSCE examination without English Language and or
Mathematics start the Institute's programme from the pre-professional level.
The subjects they are tested on are: (1) Mathematics (English Language, and
(3) Introduction to Finance. Candidates with credit (s) in Mathematics and
/or English Language can apply for exemption on prescribed forms. The
Institute Examinations are conducted (April and October of ever year).
A recent research guided by our
Programmers Coordinator revealed the exact factors (in the order of
influence) accountable for the very poor performance of bankers in this and,
other professional examinations. Chief among the factors identified are time
constraint as revealed by the study, this encouraged us to design a peculiar
programme for them. No matter your work schedule, there is a programme here
that can suit you.
GCE ADVANCED LEVEL
This guarantees University admission both within and
outside the country.A Holder of this certificate starts HIS UNIVERSITY
EDUCATION AT 200 LEVEL [2ND YEAR]and secures admission by DIRECT ENTRY
MEANING that the candidate is not required to write the University
Matriculation Examination[UME].
We recommend the Cambridge Exam which is written twice a year[in may/june
and November/December]
The British Council provides the exam service in Nigeria and can
provide you with further information on it.You do not normally need to sit
for more than three[3] subjects in this exam. Cambridge also offers the O
level exam .If you have problems securing the required O level credits
through SSCE, go for Cambridge.
WAEC/SENIOR SCHOOL CERTIFICATE (SSCE)
This is the gateway to the pursuit of higher academic, professional,
and career goals in life. Most people who lack quality senior School
Certificate (the former West African School Certificate/General Certificate
of Education) end up as frustrated human beings. The reasons are ones you,
of course know. Our Clinic is committed to ensuring that those who pass
through our intensive tutorial do not find themselves in such a regrettable
situation. English Language, and Mathematics are allocated extra time in our
Clinic. This is to ensure that those whose background in those subjects are
weak get adequate assistance from our tutors who have been carefully
selected. These subjects as other SSCE subjects have been divided into
sections which are assigned to tutors according to their specialty.
Parents/guardians who are concerned about the weak background of their wards
can request for custom made (very personalized) programmes for such wards.
Products of our school Certificate Programme are
encouraged to register with a professional body of interest to them and use
the unique facilities available in the Clinic to qualify as professionals at
the shortest possible time.
JAME UME & PCE
The arrangements made for our SSCE programme apply here. However, our
UME & PCE student are not put in the same class.
This is to ensure that the peculiarities of the relevant
syllabuses are given peculiar attention. Our Head of Counseling offers
special counseling service to SSCE , UME, PCE candidates irrespective of
whether or not the beneficiaries are registered with us. Our students,
naturally are given priority attention. We do not stop at helping you to
move into higher educational institution ; what we give is comprehensive
training that gives you the confidence to play leadership roles wherever you
may be. This way, you are enabled to make useful contributions towards the
development of Nigeria, a country that is in dire need of exemplary leaders.
Our students who score a minimum of 340 in their UME or 255 in PCE
automatically qualify for our scholarship which covers tuition fees,
relevant books, cost of accommodation, and "pocket money"
throughout the duration of their programme at the tertiary level. We run a
special Sandwich Programme for workers who register for November/December
SSCE for private candidates. We admit a few teenagers into the sandwich
programme at the request of their parents/guardians. Adult and teenagers are
provided separate hostel accommodation, and learn in separate classrooms
during the programme which we organize in August of every year. This
guarantees mutual respect. (Please refer toA-Z unique facilities/services
provided " by us for details on the sandwich programme.)

and a project work which completes Part III. The course students are examined on
are;

PART II

Founded in1974
This is the professional body
of all those engaged in purchasing and supply in Nigeria. Its founding
fathers drew inspiration from their counterparts in England which is the
Chartered Institute of Purchasing and supply (CIPS). The head of purchasing
(and supply) in any organisation determines in consultation with relevant
departments, the sources from which the organisation's inputs (raw
materials, furniture, equipment etc.) are bought. We have very few
professionals in this area in Nigeria. This has meant attractive
remuneration packages for those who have become members of the Institute
through examination.
Those who do not have minimum

subject, two of which must be at Advance level" can register for the
Institute's examination which leads to the award of Certificate in

CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF
BANKERS OF NIGERIA (CIBN)
-Established by Decree
12 of 1990
Banking is the profession of
the moment in terms of the remuneration and social status of its
practitioners. The banking sector seems be the pillar of Nigeria's economy.
The sector services the government, organisations, and private individuals.
It is, therefore, obvious that everybody's life is in one way or another
affected by banking operations. Advancement in this sector hinges largely on
one's professional status. Those who aspire to grow in this vibrant industry
must, thereby, sit for and scale through professional banking examinations.
This programme has major four parts
The Course are:

in WASC/GCE 'O'L (or equivalent) including credits at one sitting or five
credits at two sitting in SSCE examination without English Language and or
Mathematics start the Institute's programme from the pre-professional level.
